About us
Brent Association of Disabled People (BADP)
Brent Association of Disabled People is a user led organisation that started in 1970, providing vital services and much needed support to disabled people in Brent.
The staff and volunteers reflect the racial and cultural mix of Brent. BADP strives to achieve diversity and equality by basing all our work on the Social Model of Disability. To this end we monitor all our services and support programmes.
BADP plays an active part in the life of Brent, providing networking forums, advocacy and consultation on such matters as Wembley National Stadium Ltd’s Access and Inclusion strategy.
We work in partnership with Brent Council’s forums on Disabled User’s, Transport and Mobility and Volunteer Sector Liaison; Brent Primary Care Trust’s Community Involvement Workstreams; Brent Alliance for Human Rights and Equality; West London Voluntary Sector Network; Disability Partnership and National Council of Voluntary Organisations.
We have found over the last 40 years that disabled people continue to face discrimination in accessing services and involvement in local decision making, which is not only their right, but also enables them to live a better quality, independent lifestyle and to participate in wider society. This participation will also ensure that statutory bodies can hear the voice of and fully represent all their constituents.
BADP provides services and support that enables disabled people to access local health, housing and social services; reduce social exclusion and access welfare benefits. Services include:
- Computer skills training to help disabled people in current communication trends and ultimately to gain employment.
- Practical support such as gardening, small repairs, befriending, hospital visiting and hospital escort.
- Advocacy with statutory agencies.
- Debt and housing support advice.
- Quarterly news letter.
- Support and capacity building for disabled groups.
- Meeting room for disabled people’s groups.
We will continually monitor, evaluate and review our services and welcome feedback from our members.
